After you apply

1. Accept your offer

It’s very important that you read your offer information carefully. Make sure you understand the terms of your offer and any entry requirements you need to meet. Then, it’s over to you to accept your offer and let us know you’re coming to join us in Liverpool!

For applicants to undergraduate degrees, this means firmly accepting your offer through UCAS. For master's courses, you'll need to accept our offer using the postgraduate application tracker.

2. Pay your tuition fee deposit (master's courses only)

We operate a tuition fee deposit scheme for international applicants to our master’s courses.

If you receive an offer of a place on a master’s and wish to accept it, you’ll usually need to pay a tuition fee deposit of £2,000. This deposit will be deducted from the total tuition fees for your course. Find out more about tuition fee deposits for master's courses.

3. Secure your accommodation

Next on your to-do list is finding somewhere to live while you study. Demand for accommodation is high, so it’s important you apply as soon as you can after accepting your offer.

We recommend researching your accommodation options well in advance, using our accommodation web pages. This way, you’ll be ready to apply for your preferred place to live as soon as you have your offer. Learn more about our international accommodation guarantee, which helps international students secure University or University approved accommodation.

Accommodation applications are submitted online, through the Liverpool Life portal.

4. Obtain an Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) certificate (if required)

For some courses and research areas in science, engineering and technology, the UK Government require international applicants to gain clearance to study in the UK.

This means applying for an Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) certificate, unless you're from a country classed as exempt.

Where an ATAS certificate is required, this is mandatory. We won't be able to issue your CAS and your Student visa application will be unsuccessful without it.

5. Get your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) statement

Before you can apply for your visa, you'll need a CAS statement. This is a unique reference number linking you to the University, which UK Visas and Immigration will use to identify you.

We'll send your CAS statement to you via email. We should be able to issue it once you've accepted our offer of a place, provided evidence of your academic qualifications, and paid your tuition fee deposit (if you're joining a master's degree). Make sure we have the correct email address for you and check your inbox regularly, so you don’t miss our email.

Please note, if you require an ATAS certificate for your intended undergraduate degree or master's, you'll need to obtain this before we can issue your CAS statement.

Your CAS statement must match the information you provide when you submit your Student visa application so it's important to check it carefully to make sure that all of the information is correct.

6. Apply for your Student visa

Once you’ve received your CAS statement, you should be ready to apply for your Student visa.

7. Plan your journey to the UK

Once your student visa application has been approved, you can book your travel to the UK. More information about travelling by air, road or rail is available on our Getting here pages.

8. Pay your tuition fees

Arrangements for how to pay your tuition fees vary depending on whether you (or your family) are paying your tuition fees, or if they’re being paid on your behalf by a sponsor.

If you’re self-financing and paying the tuition fees yourself, you can pay your tuition fees for each year of study in a single payment or in instalments. Whichever option you choose, you need to ensure you pay the required fee amount by the relevant deadline.

You may be eligible for our Advancement Scholarships which provide tuition fee discounts worth up to £5,000 for eligible undergraduate international students and up to £7,500 for eligible master's international students.

9. Arrive in Liverpool

All that’s left to do is welcome you to our amazing city! You might be eligible for our meet and greet service at Manchester Airport and Liverpool Lime Street station, where we can help you get to your accommodation for the start of Welcome Week. You’ll soon be settling in on campus!

Our Welcome pages are full of information about what to do during your first week and all the welcome events taking place.

You'll need to attend an international student registration session prior to the start of your course. Here we'll check and scan your immigration documents and upload them to your student record.

You're now all set to start your course and enjoy the welcome events and activities across campus.
