Liverpool John Lennon Airport is around eight miles from the city centre and offers flights from various parts of Europe. Manchester Airport, which is around 45 minutes from Liverpool, is the closest airport for flights from around the world. There is a direct rail service from Manchester airport train station to Liverpool Lime Street, the main Liverpool city centre train station, and direct coaches to Liverpool.

Travelling from London airports to Liverpool by train

If you do need to fly to one of the London airports, you can get a direct train from London Euston train station to Liverpool Lime Street train station. The journey by train takes around two hours. Find out more about train times and ticket prices on the National Rail website.

Please note, you will still need to travel from whichever London airport you are arriving at, to the train station, as the airports are not in the centre of London. The fastest way to get to London Euston train station from one of the airports is usually via tube, the London underground train service. You could also get an Uber or private taxi, which may take longer but could be more practical if you have a lot of luggage with you.

Travelling from London airports to Liverpool by coach

You could also plan your onward journey into Liverpool via coach. The coach station in Liverpool is Liverpool One bus station, in the city centre. Find times and ticket prices on the National Express website.

1. Have your passport ready for inspection.
2. If you're a non European Economic Area National, ensure you complete the landing card handed to you on your flight.
3. Have your University Certificate of Acceptance Studies (CAS) number ready. If you don't have a CAS number, please bring a paper copy showing details of the course you're studying.
4. Keep any medical documentation, recent bank statements and details of where you are staying in your hand luggage as you may need to produce this information.
5. Expect Border Force Officers to ask simple questions about your stay in the UK.
6. Do not bring in any meat or dairy products from outside the European Union. There are restrictions on other food products such as fish, eggs and honey, as well as some fruit, vegetables and plants (e.g. bulbs, seeds, cut flowers and tree bark).
7. There are also restrictions on the amount of tobacco, and gifts you can bring to the UK. If you exceed your duty free allowance and do not declare them, all of your items could be taken away from you.
8. You must declare any sums of £10,000 or more (or the equivalent in another currency) if you are travelling from a country outside the European Union.
9. Never bring in counterfeit goods, illegal drugs, offensive weapons or indecent or obscene material. Some items are restricted and will require a licence or permit.
10. Never give false or misleading information (including forged or counterfeit documents).
