Infrastructure

Liverpool HEP department has excellent facilities available to support the research of the group.

The Liverpool Semiconductor Detector Centre (LSDC) is a state of the art facility which makes possible the construction and testing of detector systems for use in particle physics experiments at accelerator facilities over the world. It also enables the group to actively engage in R&D for new detector technologies at future experiments. 

The department has excellent computing infrastructure in place to support its work. The primary computing requirements are served by a distributed system of desktop PCs and laptops running Scientific Linux 6, supported by extensive disk storage and 10Gigabit networking.

Particle Physics manage a Tier-2 cluster with over 1000 cores and 800TB of high performance RAID storage, available for use by Physicists and Life Scientists via the Grid. Local high performance computing is extended by a Tier-3 cluster for both interactive analysis and batch processing with dedicated 64-bit nodes and NVidia Tesla and Intel Xeon Phi GPGPU/Accelerators. 

Additionally, the Physics department has a first class workshop, equipped with state of the art machinery.
