Physics research at the University of Liverpool

Physics for Science and Society

Researchers in our Department lead world-class R&D programmes in fundamental science and applied research.

We collaborate with the leading institutes and laboratories around the world, including CERN in Switzerland, STFC's Diamond Light Source and Daresbury Laboratory in the UK, ESRF and GANIL in France, GSI and DESY in Germany, and TRIUMF in Canada.

Our researchers apply their unique expertise to their day-to-day teaching, allowing our undergraduate and postgraduate students to not only learn about physics throughout their studies but to be part of our cutting edge research.

Our research has a focus on five main areas:

Accelerator Physics

Condensed Matter Physics

Nuclear Physics

Particle Physics

Physics Education Research

We are also known internationally for our work in applied fields such as semiconductor sensors, nuclear and renewable energy.
