Academic dress for your graduation ceremonies

To attend your ceremony, you need to order the correct academic dress (cap, gown, and hood).

You can order your academic dress from the University’s robe makers, Ede and Ravenscroft. Make sure you place your order no later than 21 days before your ceremony, otherwise, your order cannot be guaranteed.

You may also use an alternative robe supplier. Please bear in mind that any robes from an alternative supplier must be compliant with the University’s regulations on academic dress. You will also need to ensure that your robe arrives in good time before your ceremony.

Tips for ordering your gown

You will need to select your degree award when ordering: for example, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, etc. Note that the hood colour in the image shown when ordering may be different from the one you receive.

You will be asked to provide your height and head circumference when ordering so please have this information to hand.

Collecting and returning your gown

Please collect your gown at least two hours before the start of your ceremony.

You can collect your gown on the day of your ceremony from the Liverpool Guild of Students, Mount Pleasant, up to three hours before your ceremony start time.

Once you have collected your gown, you will be directed to pick up your ceremony tickets, brochure, and award documentation.

  • Return hired gowns to the same location by 6.30pm on the same day.

Liverpool Guild of Students, Mount Pleasant:

General dress

The graduation ceremonies are formal occasions and it is respectfully requested that graduates and guests dress appropriately for the occasion.

Suggestions for appropriate attire underneath academic robes would be a lounge suit, shirt and tie, or a skirt/trousers and shirt/blouse. Footwear should also be formal although you should be aware that, if you are able to, you will be required to use stairs to access the room - please therefore choose your footwear carefully.

You are also reminded that all graduates are required to wear their mortar boards throughout the proceedings.
