Registration: Tell us your plans

Registration for graduation ceremonies will open from Wednesday April 10th, 2024 and close on May 3rd.  Further information will be published here, and provided to students directly, in due course.

When it is your time to register for graduation, we will need you to let us know if you:

  • plan to attend your graduation ceremony
  • plan to graduate, but you do not plan to attend your ceremony
  • plan to postpone your graduation until the next scheduled occasion.

During your registration process you can also request your two free guest tickets, tell us how you want your award documents to be delivered and provide us with a phonetic pronunciation of your name (for help typing your pronunciation, see www.nameshouts.com). All of this is done through the graduation portal.

You will need to let us know your graduation plans by 3 May 2024.  If you don't do this then we’re unable to guarantee that arrangements can be made for you to attend your ceremony, so it’s really important that you let us know!

What if you're not attending the ceremony?

Please tell us if you are not planning on attending your graduation ceremony in the graduation portal.

You have the option to graduate in absentia (in your absence) in July 2024, or you may postpone your graduation until December 2024 if you want to graduate in person then.

It is important that you use the graduation portal to let us know your intentions as it will provide you with an opportunity to check that the details we hold for you are correct – in particular your full legal name (which is displayed on your official award documents) and your contact address. Giving us your up-to-date address will ensure that, if you plan to graduate in absentia, your award documents will be sent to the correct place.

  • If you are graduating in absentia in July 2024, your certificate will be dispatched by the end of August 2024.
  • If you postpone your graduation until December 2024, you can only receive your award documentation in December when you graduate. You can only postpone your graduation on one occasion.

Guest tickets

If you plan to attend your ceremony, you can request up to two free guest tickets.  Subject to availability, there may be a small number of additional chargeable guest tickets (at £10.00 per ticket).  You can find out ticket availability when you register. Please be aware that for some ceremonies, due to capacity issues, no extra tickets can be made available.

Tickets will be available for collection at the registration point on the day of your ceremony. Please note that these tickets are non-transferrable. We will send you details about this registration point by email in good time before your ceremony. We will also contact you if any more guest tickets become available nearer to the ceremonies.

You need to let us know your plans by Friday 3 May 2024.

If you do not tell us your plans by this date, we’re unable to guarantee that arrangements can be made for you to attend your ceremony so it's really important that you let us know.

Check your details

Your graduation is a matter of public record, and your award certificate is a legal document. We need to be sure that the details we hold for you are correct at the point of your graduation – in particular your full legal name and your contact address. Providing us with an up-to-date address will also ensure that, if you do not plan to attend your ceremony, your official documents will be sent to the correct place.

You can check your details as part of the registration process. This will provide you with more information about what to do if your details need updating. If you still have questions, reach out to us at gradenq@liverpool.ac.uk
