Join the Graduation Class of 2023 University of Liverpool WhatsApp Community and read the Privacy Notice.

We’ve launched a WhatsApp Community for this summer’s graduation ceremonies to help keep you and your guests up-to-date on everything you need to know about the celebrations.

We’ll be sending links to helpful graduation-related information, like where you can celebrate on campus, as well as some behind-the-scenes content and helpful tips to help your day go smoothly.

Remember, you’ll need to have downloaded WhatsApp in order to join the Community.

Things to know

Joining our Graduation 2023 WhatsApp Community is optional. Any essential information about attending your graduation ceremony will be sent to you on other channels.

Only Community Admins can see your details in the community and only Community Admins will be able to post to the Community. You can leave the community at any time by clicking on the name at the top of your screen and selecting ‘Exit Group’.

Who will own my data once I submit it?

Why do you need my information?

To join a WhatsApp Community you need to join using your WhatsApp account.  When you join the community, you will be added to the Announcement Group. Your profile will be visible to community admins only, and not all members of the WhatsApp Community.

As a member, you can see and join groups in the community and stay updated with admin announcements. Your profile is visible to community admins.

The WhatsApp Community is set up and managed by the University of Liverpool Communications and Public Affairs team.

What allows you to use my information?

The WhatsApp Community is optional and students and their guests will be invited to join the WhatsApp Community. Joining the Community relies on your individual consent.

Who will my information be shared with?

Your information will be used in accordance with WhatsApp’s Privacy Policy. WhatsApp’s Privacy Policy can be seen here.

Do I have to provide this information and what will happen if I don’t?

You are under no obligation to join the WhatsApp Community. The Community is optional. Key information and celebratory graduation content will be shared to the Group, but any essential information relating to your Graduation ceremony will be shared with you on alternative channels, such as via email.

You can choose to leave the WhatsApp Community at any time by selecting ‘Exit Community’ within the WhatsApp Community. The University encourages you to exit the WhatsApp Community once your Graduation ceremony ends.

How long will you keep this data for and why?

The WhatsApp Community Announcement Group will not be maintained beyond August 2023. The University will deactivate the WhatsApp Community in September 2023. Past admins won’t be able to message this community. Members won’t have access to past information, admins and groups.

How will my information be stored?

Will this information be used to take automated decisions about me?

No.

What rights do I have when it comes to my data?

Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation, you may have the following rights with regards to your personal data:

  1. The Right to subject access – you have the right to see a copy of the personal data that the University holds about you and find out what it is used for.
  2. The Right to rectification – you have the right to ask the University to correct or remove any inaccurate data that we hold about you.
  3. The Right to erasure (right to be forgotten) you have the right to ask the University to remove data that we hold about you.
  4. The Right to restriction – you have the right to ask for your information to be restricted (locked down) on University systems.
  5. The Right to data portability – you have the right to ask for your data to be transferred back to you or to a new provider at your request.
  6. The Right to object – you have the right to ask the University to stop using your personal data or to stop sending you marketing information, or complain about how your data is used.
  7. The Right to prevent automated decision making – you have the right to ask the University to stop using your data to make automated decisions about you or to stop profiling your behaviour (where applicable).
