Conducting environmental assessments to make developments more sustainable

Professor Thomas Fischer explores ways for making policies, plans, programmes and project developments more environmentally sustainable. In this context, and based on practical experiences in the private sector, government and research, he has developed a particular interest in strategic environmental assessment and environmental impact assessment.

Thomas has a longstanding relationship with the World Health Organization, working on multiple projects including health impacts of the circular economy, infrastructure and waste management. Through his 30 years of experience in engaging with key stakeholders and policy makers, Thomas has extensive understanding of the process of policy engagment and how to make it impactful.
