Dr Dan Wootton is a Senior Clinical Lecturer at Liverpool and a Consultant Respiratory Physician at Liverpool Royal University Hospital. Dan's research is centred around hospital acquired pneumonia (HAP) and finding ways to diagnose HAP more rapidly and more accurately, that will have real meaningful clinical benefits for patients and for the NHS.

Professor Amel Alghrani is a Professor of Law at the School of Law and Social Justice at Liverpool. In her research, Amel explores how we can use the law to tackle inequalities in society and make laws more effective in practice. Her study looked at the impact of the COVID-19 lockdowns on children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.
Conducting environmental assessments to make development more sustainable
Professor Thomas Fischer, from the Department of Geography and Planning, explores ways of making policies, plans, programmes and project developments more environmentally sustainable. Thomas has a long standing collaboration with the World Health Organisation focussing on health and impact assessments.
Combatting inappropriate use of stem cell therapies
Professor Patricia Murray's work focuses on stem cell biology and regenerative medicine. She is developing stem cell therapies to treat renal and neurological diseases. Patricia has engaged with policy makers, setting out economic rationale for why we should have better funding of the NHS so patients have better access to the care that they need and there is less demand for unproven therapies in private clinics.
Transforming palliative and end of life care
Professor Pippa Hunter-Jones has developed effective relationships with policy makers to ensure her data-driven research around important issues in palliative and end of life care can instigate change and have real tangible impact on society. Pippa adopted an evidence-based approach in her policy engagement activity for an enquiry and led her to develop a new tool to support people, patients and their families during end of life care.
