We have a very strong pipeline with over 60 potential new medicines being researched and hope to launch at least 20 new medicines in the 10 years from 2014 to 2023.
Erl Wood (in Surrey) is Lilly’s largest Research and Development (R&D) site outside the US where our leading scientists focus on neuroscience research, to find new treatments for Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, depression and chronic pain. We have a strong publication record and a high profile at major scientific meetings and we are proud to have received notable accolades including our Prix Galien Award for olanzapine and Queens Award for innovation in the UK.
In the last 10 years, we have spent over £1.1 billion on research in the UK and invested more than £85 million in our UK R&D facilities, so we can continue to discover the medicines of the future.

Lilly scientists work in collaboration with academic institutions and research organisations around the world in seeking to understand disease mechanisms. Supporting the North West England MRC Fellowship Scheme in Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics is one of many ways we collaborate and we believe this CPT programme can help address a critical skills shortage by helping train the next generation of clinical pharmacologists. We provide students with the opportunity to find out for themselves what it’s like to work in the pharmaceutical industry; students spend three to twelve months at one of our research sites, with the opportunity to contribute to national and international research programmes.
