Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR) Greece

HCMR isa highly active centre for marine research, created in 2003 from the merger of the National Centre for Marine Research with the Institute of Marine Biology of Crete. HCMR consists of 5 institutes concerning oceanography, fisheries, aquaculture, marine biology and genetics and inland waters. The Centre has been extremely active in all the EU framework programmes, involved in numerous projects as coordinator or a partner including recent 7FP MEECE, CORALFISH, MESMA as well as MARBEF, COST-IMPACT, ELME, SESAME, EFIMAS, Envi-EFH, NATURA 2000. The Centre has modern well-equipped facilities and is active throughout in the Eastern Mediterranean and adjacent seas. HCMR participants in this project have been involved in studies on, ecosystem functioning and impacts, biodiversity issues and biological resources management and research.

K Nadia Papadopoulou

Nadia Papadopoulou is a marine biologist with 20 years’ experience in ecology, ecosystem studies and impacts. She has participated in numerous EU projects related to ecosystem function (“Pelagic Benthic Coupling in the oligotrophic Cretan Sea”, MAST III MATER “Mass Transfer and Ecosystem Response”), fisheries-environment (5FP COST-IMPACT “Costing the Impact of demersal fishing on marine ecosystem processes and biodiversity”, 6FP ELME “European Lifestyles and Marine Environment”), aquaculture-fisheries-environment interactions (5FP AQCESS “Aquaculture and Coastal Economic and Social Sustainability”, MERAMED &MEDVEG) and on fisheries and by-catch/discard mitigating approaches (6FP NECESSITY & NEPGM).
