The Department of Music is pleased to announce the introduction of new scholarships for UK students on two of its master’s programmes.

No separate application is required for the awards, and all eligible UK applicants will be automatically considered, subject to any specific conditions being met.

The Martha Vidor Scholarship for Composition seeks to fund postgraduate study for talented UK composers. It is available on the MRes Music and takes the form of one full tuition fee waiver per year.

The Martha Vidor Scholarship for Music and Audiovisual Media is available on the MA Music and Audiovisual Media, and offers £5,000 off the UK tuition fee. Applicants to both pathways – Academic and Practical – will be considered.

These awards are the latest addition to a suite of prizes in the Department, which also includes the Rushworth Scholarship for MA Music Management, and the Sarah Barrow Bursary, available on the MMus Music Performance and Education.

“The Department of Music is home to an exciting and growing community of composers across all programmes, representing an astonishing breadth of stylistic and technological sophistication”, commented Professor Lisa Colton, Head of Music. “The new Martha Vidor scholarships enable us to attract talented postgraduate composers of acoustic and electronic music, as well as composers and researchers of music for film, audiovisual media and gaming.

“We expect students to benefit from specialist tuition and Music's outstanding facilities and research infrastructure, and we anticipate that they will contribute actively to our creative community and concert life. Students will enjoy taking full advantage of the Tung Auditorium as a venue for workshops of their music with the department's professional partners (Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Solem Quartet, Riot Ensemble).”
