Personal Statement

Jennifer Johnson is an Associate Professor in Human Resource Management and Director of Studies for M.Sc. Healthcare Leadership in the Management School. She holds a PhD from the University of Liverpool which focused on cross-cultural learning, an MA in Strategic HR, PG Diploma in Coaching, is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) and is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (FCIPD). She has won a Faculty Teaching Award for her high quality teaching, embedding employability into the curriculum.

As Director of Studies for M.Sc. Healthcare Leadership (online), she co-created the programme with the Head of Postgraduate Studies in the School of Medicine. This involved extensive discourse about the interface between medicine and leadership, as well as the development of international teaching strategies to enable exemplary learning experiences. Prior to this role, she was Director of Studies for M.Sc. Human Resource Management programme; her role included the mapping of the programme against CIPD standards in order to gain Level 7 CIPD accreditation for the course. Additionally, she was CIPD Branch Chair for Merseyside and North Cheshire, before being Council Representative.

Before an academic career, she had extensive industry experience in the fields of recruitment and Organisational Development. As Head of HRD in a multinational organisation, she devised the strategy and operational delivery mechanisms. Furthermore, as a qualified business coach, she ran her own SME, working closely with many Directors and business leaders to ensure that their people strategy was aligned with their business strategy. She is adept at building strong working relationships with key figures in both HR and healthcare. She has worked with Dr. Meredith Belbin, creator of Belbin Team Roles, co-creating learning materials about exemplary teams.
