Following on from a recent delegation visit to India, the Management School is pleased to announce it has launched a Global Sports Business Management Programme in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Management Indore.

The Memorandum of Understanding for the partnership took place on March 18 2024, and was signed by Professor Julia Balogun, Dean of the University of Liverpool Management School and IIM Indore’s Director, Professor Himanshu Rai.

This comes as part of a successful delegation trip to India, where ULMS colleagues also met with former alumni across Delhi, Bengaluru and Mumbai – connecting with alumni as far as back as the Class of 1996!

The Global Sports Business Management programme will aim to equip aspiring sports business professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to excel in the evolving sports industry - covering areas such as sports marketing, sponsorship, events management and leadership.

Participants on the programme will also look at global debates and contemporary issues, evaulate stakeholders and governance structures in addition to critically assessing sports brands and market dynamics.

Professor David Cockayne, Director of the University of Liverpool's MSc in Sports Business & Management, has underlined how the partnership between IIM Indore and ULMS "represents a transnational, hybrid model of executive education that distinctively allows business leaders from sport in India and the U.K. to network, learn through shared experiences, and benefit from excellence in research led teaching from ULMS and IIMI faculty.”

Spanning over 8-9 months, the programme is structured into five stages. The first stage kicks off with a five-day on-campus session at IIM Indore, fostering interactive discussions and immersive learning. Following this, participants will engage in online live classes during the second and fourth stages, delivered jointly by IIM Indore and the University of Liverpool, offering flexibility and convenience.

The third stage offers a unique opportunity for participants to immerse themselves in the global sports business landscape with a five-day session at the University of Liverpool, providing invaluable insights from industry experts. The programme will conclude with a three-day on-campus session at IIM Indore, consolidating learning and preparing participants for their future endeavors in sports business management.

Professor Julia Balogun has commented: “I am delighted to see the launch of the Global Sports Business Management Executive Education programme, which will be run as a joint programme between IIM Indore and the University of Liverpool Management School”, she said. We look forward to establishing more collaborative ventures between our institutions. The programme builds on the expertise of faculty within both IIM Indore and the University of Liverpool Management School’s Centre for Sports Business. “It will be of great benefit to those in, or aspiring to, careers in sports business”, she added.
