On 14 March 2024, the Operations and Supply Chain Management Group and the Centre for Supply Chain Research at the University of Liverpool Management School (ULMS) successfully hosted a full-day research event focused on AI and emerging technologies. The event was delivered by Professor Meng Li from the University of Houston and attended by about 40 participants from ULMS and other universities (e.g., Bath, Birmingham, Bristol, Coventry, Exeter, Leeds, Leicester, Nottingham, Southampton, York, and Warwick).

Following an opening speech delivered by Professor Andy Lyons, Head of the OSCM Group, Professor Li gave a research seminar on “AI in Operations Management.” After the lunch break, Professor Li introduced the call for papers of the Journal of Operations Management’s (JOM) special issue on “Emerging Technologies in Healthcare” and answered relevant questions from participants. Professor Li then chaired a research workshop related to the JOM special issue, featuring 4 presentations given by researchers from UK, USA, and China. Dr Daniel Xing concluded the event and thanked Professor Li and participants for their contributions.

Commenting on the research event, Professor Hugo Lam, Director of Research of the OSCM group, mentioned: “The event provided a great opportunity for researchers to learn from Professor Li regarding publishing research in top academic journals and in the JOM special issue particularly. I received many positive comments from participants and it was impressive to know quite a few of them travelled a few hours to Liverpool for attending the event!”
