The Pathology Group offers a Diagnostic Pathology Service, incorporating post mortem examinations (including histopathology, microbiology and other specific examinations, especially work-up of legal and insurance cases), histopathological, cytological and immunohistological examinations. It also provides a Research Pathology Service, comprising histopathological, immunohistological, molecular biological (in situ hybridisation) and ultrastructural studies.
The material obtained by the Pathology Service is used for both undergraduate and postgraduate training in veterinary pathology. In addition to that, the facilities within the Faculty and beyond (for example in the Medical School) enable a broadly-based postgraduate training. Excellent facilities for training in practical pathology, as well as the associated laboratory equipment and methodical expertise are provided.
