The School
Liverpool University has pioneered the study of the ancient world since 1881, developing unique facilities, such as our museum, libraries and laboratories.
The School is now academic home to 40 staff and over 400 students.
Our internationally recognised expertise ranges from ancient languages to human evolution, creating a lively culture based around interdisciplinary debate and active research.

Research
Liverpool is an internationally recognised centre for research in Archaeology, Classics and Egyptology with 40 members of staff and over 100 postgraduates working on over 15 research projects around the world.
Liverpool Archaeology In Country's Top 5
In 2008 the School was ranked fourth nationally for its proportion of world-class and internationally excellent research in Archaeology. There was also good news for Classics, with 50% of our research judged to be world class or internationally excellent.

Teaching
We are dedicated to delivering innovative, high quality teaching. The School hosts the prestigious Higher Education Academy Subject Centre for History, Classics and Archaeology and our National Teaching Fellow contributes actively to the continuing development of our teaching methods.
