Konstantin Zuev

Lecturer in Uncertainty and Risk in Complex Systems and Networks

Biography

Dr Konstantin Zuev is a member of the Institute for Risk and Uncertainty and the Centre for Engineering Sustainability at the University of Liverpool. He obtained Diploma in Mathematics with distinction and gold medal (2003) and PhD in Mathematics (2008) from the Lomonosov Moscow State University. He also received PhD in Civil Engineering from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (2009). After he had successfully completed both PhD programs, Dr. Zuev became a Postdoctoral Scholar at the Department of Computing and Mathematical Sciences, California Institute of Technology. Next, he joined the University of Southern California as an NTT Assistant Professor of Mathematics. He also held the appointment of Visiting Associate at the Department of Computing and Mathematical Sciences, California Institute of Technology. Starting from September 2013, Dr. Zuev is a lecturer at the University of Liverpool.

Dr. Zuev uses methods and concepts from applied probability and statistics to solve important problems in civil engineering. In particular, his research interests focus on Engineering Reliability Estimation, Rare Event Simulation, Uncertainty Quantification, Reliability Analysis of Critical Infrastructures Networks, and Statistical Modelling of Technological Networks. The relevant mathematical tools include computational Bayesian inference, Markov chain Monte Carlo simulation methods, importance sampling, particle filters, and network science.
