Research Staff and Public Engagement - what to consider and how to benefit

For many years there has been considerable interest in the role universities play in society. Universities have been forced to negotiate their positioning, reinforce their civic role and maximise the visibility of their contribution. Research work (viewed more widely than the simple generation of knowledge) can play a key role in this process.

Research Staff can potentially assume an important part in the public engagement work of the University. They are well placed to speak directly and passionately about their research; its ability to address local and global challenges and the wider benefits it can bring. This can assist the University in providing accountability for the investment of public funds.

These parallel sessions will be led by active researchers who have been involved with public engagement activities. They will present their experiences and demonstrate how research staff can contribute to and benefit from public engagement.
