Welcome to Mathematical Sciences
I am very pleased you have chosen to start the next stage of your education with us here in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Liverpool. Our aim will be to give you a valuable and satisfying experience. As you will find, the University experience is a partnership between the lecturers and the students. You will learn things from us as well as from each other. Most importantly, you will also discover things for yourself.
A mathematics degree is an excellent investment because it opens up many possibilities for the future. We have a large Department with highly qualified academic staff, a first-class reputation in teaching and research, and a great city which you will enjoy. I would particularly urge you to keep in touch with your academic advisor and also to take advantage of the many forms of help that we try to provide – do sign up to join the student-run Maths Society, MathSoc. After you graduate, we all hope that you will be able to look back on a rich and fulfilling time as a member of the Mathematical Sciences community of the University of Liverpool.

We will work hard during Welcome Week and in the first semester to make your transition to the University life as smooth as possible.

Register online
You now need to register with the University. Details on how you can register are also included in the ‘Your Registration’ document you received as part of your Welcome Week pack.
Additional guidance will be updated when the Foundation and Welcome Week timetables are confirmed.
Welcome Week
There will be several activities taking place during welcome week. You will be introduced to the Department and will be provided with a foundation to ensure you gain the maximum from your time at our department. These activities will be fun, engaging, and informative. You will get the opportunity to meet your new friends, explore around the campus with them, and have some fun with your riddle-solving skill. Having satisfied with your hunger for exploration (and of course food!), you will be given a chance to participate in an engaging and rewarding exploration of facts and knowledge. Along the way you will have the opportunity to ask questions (anonymously!) and engage in an informative discussion. The informative sessions will also include a glimpse of what you can do with your math degree.
The First-Year welcome event:
In this event we will welcome our new first year students.

The Second-Year welcome event:
This will be a joint welcome event for our returning second year home students and new second year students joining us from XJTLU.

- Venue: Rotblat Lecture Theatre, Chadwick Building

Maths Student Support Office
The Math Student Support Office offers help and advice for all Maths students and can be found on the ground floor of the Maths Building (room G33). There is a team of staff dedicated to assist students with any questions.

Maths Current Students website
The Mathematical Sciences Current Students website is a useful source of information about the Maths Department, the facilities available, the teaching staff and information about your degree programme. The Mathematical Sciences Undergraduate Handbook will be available shortly after you register.
Your Academic Advisor
All students at the University of Liverpool will be assigned a named academic member of staff as their Academic Advisor. Their role is to develop a relationship with you; to provide information, advice and guidance on academic matters and to direct you to further sources of information on academic matters as well as the wide range of information, advice and guidance on non-academic matters available to students at Liverpool.
Student Support Services
Your first few days at University can be quite confusing and it may take time for you to settle into your new surroundings and life as a student. It may also be your first time away from home.
At the Student Services Centre the specialist teams are available to help with any practical, emotional or general issues. They can also direct you to the most appropriate services across the University.
The Liverpool Guild of Students (Student Societies)
Liverpool Guild of Students (LGoS) is the Students' Union for the University of Liverpool.
