Abstract
In this seminar, I will rehearse the so-called "opportunity wars" at the core of entrepreneurship theory.
Drawing on my forthcoming AMR, co-authored with Jeff S. McMullen (WHAT IS AN OPPORTUNITY?”: FROM THEORETICAL MYSTIFICATION TO EVERYDAY UNDERSTANDING), I will provide a critical analysis of the discourse on "entrepreneurial opportunities" and summarize the key tenets of the "actualization framework".
I will also call attention to some "open" linguistic and epistemological problems, and close by sharing my thoughts on the most promising lines of inquiry for future research.
Speaker
Stratos Ramoglou is Professor of Entrepreneurship Studies and Head of the Department of Strategy, Innovation and Entrepreneurship (DSIE) at the University of Southampton.
He holds a PhD and an MPhil from the University of Cambridge (UK), an MA from the University of Warwick (UK), and a BSc from Aristotle University (Greece). Stratos currently conducts research on the conceptual foundations of entrepreneurship studies.
His research has been published in leading academic journals, such as Academy of Management Review, Cambridge Journal of Economics, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, and Journal of Business Venturing.
He also sits on the Editorial Boards of Academy of Management Review and Journal of Business Venturing and is an Editor of European Management Review.
Stratos has won the Dean's Award for leadership in research as well as the Vice Chancellor's Teaching Award.
