Session 2021-22 Level 7 FHEQ Whole Session 10

Aims

The aim of the module is to give the students a knowledge of the necessary physics and biological principles which underpin diagnostic radiology. The lectures aim to give the students knowledge of a range of diagnostic radiology modalities, including clinical applications and approaches to quality assurance. The lectures will aim to cover radiation generation through to image formation, as well as patient dose awareness and calculation methods. There are also lectures which aim to give the students information on the legislation and guidance relevant to diagnostic radiology. The practical sessions have the aim of giving students knowledge of the operation of measurement systems used in a clincal setting.

Learning Outcomes

(LO1) A knowledge of the physics underpinning diagnostic radiology

(LO2) A knowledge of the tools and methods used in quality assurance and image quality assessment and the ability to carry out appropriate calculations.

(LO3) A knowledge of the radiation protection guidelines, the applicable legislation and patient dose framework

(LO4) The ability to describe and/or analyse a range of clinical applications of radiology

(LO5) The ability to carry out and interpret measurements using clinical diagnostic radiology equipment

(S1) Problem solving skills

(S2) Communication skills
