Aims

The aim is to make the students aware of a number of clinical imaging applications using different modalities. Through a series of presentations and case studies the aim is to give the students the knowledge and methods to interpret results and to carry out a case study or studies and reach conclusions.

Learning Outcomes

(LO1) An understanding of a range of different imaging modalities

(LO2) An understanding of a range of different clinical applications of imaging techniques

(LO3) An understanding of the methods used to interpret the results of medical imaging procedures

(LO4) The elements needs to carry out a case study of the use of medical imaging for different clinical problems

(S1) Problem solving skills

(S2) Communication skills

Syllabus

There will be lectures to cover the clinical uses of medical imaging in the following areas: FDG-PET in lung cancer diagnosis Imaging for lung cancer radiotherapy (PET,CT,planar SPECT). Choline PET & MR in prostate cancer imaging fMRI - general applications, brain applications Neuro-imaging, Nuclear Medicine imaging applications Ultrasound - fetal monitoring Cardiac CT 4D CT in cancer treatment Retinal imaging MIASMA Registration algorithms current and future CT/MR registration in radiotherapy. Deformable registration in adaptive radiotherapy perfusion SPECT/CT in lung radiotherapy applying prostate PET to radiotherapy portal dosimetry in radiotherapy.
