To improve science students' skills in communicating scientific information in a wide range of contexts To develop students' understanding of some concepts of: Science in general Their particular area of science Other areas of science

Syllabus

 

The four communication scenarios will be:- Undergraduate (Level 1) lecture in student's own discipline. Group business presentation based on results of research completed by the group. Research talk to scientists (based on departmental research). Group presentation about science to a non-specialist audience.

Teaching Method 1 - Other
Description: Four communication scenarios (essentially problem based learning) will be set for the students in the module. In each case the students will have workshops in which they receive an introduction to the scenario, an exercise, discussion and production of Aims, Objectives and Evaluation criteria for the particular scenario. The students will prepare and present solutions for the scenarios whether individually or in a team. Student learning will be developed through evaluation others' presentations and of resources. The module will be underpinned by reflective writing exercises.
