Aims

To further develop standard of practical performance.

To expand knowledge of repertory.

To encourage critical thinking about concepts and methods of practice and interpretation.

To further develop the acuity of professional attitudes and skills regarding practice and performance and with a particular attention to details of listening and intonation.

To equip the student with the knowledge and skills necessary to make informed decisions regarding intonation in their own practice and performance

Syllabus

 

The syllabus is directed towards the summative public recital examination at the end of Semester 2. This consists of the performance of a balanced programme of classical pieces lasting a total of 20 minutes. A performance report, submitted prior to the recital, demonstrates technical and interpretative performance supported with wider research and linking to the repertoire of the recital. In addition, students are required to attend workshops and participate in the seminars, including online as appropriate, as part of the continuous assessment for the module. Student assessments are supported by professional accompanists (if required) and the professional accompanist will be assigned by the Head of Classical Music Performances.


Teaching and Learning Strategies

Teaching Method 1 - Seminar/ structured online activities Description: Seminars encourage discussion around practice approaches and relevant reading and involve student participation. Teaching Method 2 - – Tutorial Description: 1 -1 lessons with instrument. Teaching Method 3 - Field Work/ structured online activities Description: Attendance at lunchtime concerts. Teaching Method 4 - – Journal Description: Maintain a practice diary.

The majority of teaching will be delivered face-to-face on campus. Online delivery will be used to complement the on-campus delivery and where technology affords a better learning experience.
