Syllabus
 

1 The syllabus is directed towards the summative public recital examination at the end of Semester

2. This consists of the performance of a balanced programme of classical pieces lasting a total of c.10 minutes. Singers and players of brass instruments may be permitted to present a slightly shorter programme with the approval of the Head of Performance. The programme is approved by the Head of Performance (or a member of staff acting in his name). Students will be assigned a staff accompanist. In addition, students are required to attend workshops, participate in the seminars, engage with asynchronous online activities, and participate in a mid-years performance, as part of the continuous assessment for the module.

Teaching and Learning Strategies

Teaching Method 1 - – Seminar/structured online activities
Description: Weekly sessions throughout the year
Attendance recorded: Yes
Notes: Workshop sessions and video diaries give students an opportunity to try out what they have been practising. Students will share own performances with the rest of the year group for peer review and feedback.

Teaching Method 2 - Tutorial
Description: One-to-one instrumental teaching with a relevant specialist tutor
Attendance recorded: No

Notes: Students arrange their lessons with mutual agreement from their allocated tutor.

Self-directed learning: Private practice, rehearsals with others, concert attendance/study of texts, preparation for assessments.
