Aims

This module enables students to specialise and pursue a larger-scale music performance project of their own choosing.


Learning Outcomes

(LO1) To be able to carry out a large–scale project that involves or relates to music performance.

(LO2) To be able to demonstrate technical proficiency in the chosen specialism.

(LO3) To be able to interpret with contextual understanding musical texts or environments or situations.

(LO4) To be able to manage time effectively in a mainly self-directed project.

(LO5) To be able to communicate ideas sufficiently clearly in a music performance or music performance-related context.

(S1) Contextualisation of knowledge.

(S2) Technical control of a (musical) medium or methodology.

(S3) Interpretation and critical judgment.

(S4) Personal management.

(S5) Communication and interaction.


Syllabus

 

Content for each student will depend on the chosen specialism/output type. The focus will be on ensuring the work is suitable for a project of longer duration/larger scale, in particular from the following perspectives:
1. structure and balance of content
2. how to ensure effective communication
3. technical assurance/appropriateness of methods and style


Teaching and Learning Strategies

Teaching method: Tutorials.
Notes: Students have the option of replacing practical support with additional academic guidance tutorials if they are not pursuing a practical Major Project (e.g. the recital) or are pursuing only limited practical components and do not require the full allocation of instrumental lessons.

Teaching method: Practical.
Description: One to one instrumental teaching with a relevant specialist tutor.
Notes: Students have the option of replacing practical support with additional academic guidance tutorials if they are not pursuing a practical Major Project (e.g. the recital) or are pursuing only limited practical components and do not require the full allocation of instrumental lessons.

Self-directed learning: According to the needs of chosen project. This may include research activity, wider reading, observations, development of writing skills, rehearsals, private practice, assessment preparation, etc.
