Aims

To gain greater awareness of formal considerations to provide experience in handling small-scale musical form. To develop self-critical skills To develop accuracy and fluency in notation and musicianship. To introduce students to the origins and historical development of counterpoint To gain basic awareness of a range of 20th/21st-century styles, languages and approaches

Syllabus

 

Species counterpoint (Renaissance) Imitative counterpoint and basic functional harmony (Baroque) Survey of counterpoint techniques from Baroque to contemporary periods
