Aims |

The aim of the module is to lead the student to an understanding of the way that relatively simple mathematics (in modern terms) led Bohr, Einstein, Heisenberg and others to a radical change and improvement in our understanding of the microscopic world. |
Learning Outcomes |

- Wave particle duality. - Schrodinger's equation for simple one dimensional systems. - Finite-dimensional Hilbert space and matrix mechanics. - Quantum Mechanics of Simple Harmonic Oscillation. - Angular momentum and the hydrogen atom. - Perturbation theory and the variational method. - Collapse of the wave function, Schrodinger's cat and the EPR paradox. |
