Aims

1. Stimulate academic interest in this complex area of law.

Learning Outcomes

(LO1) Demonstrate knowledge of the key areas of substantive law in relation to the general principles of criminal law and to specific offences.

(LO2) Demonstrate the ability to apply this knowledge to problem situations by analysing complex problems, identifying important issues, reasoning, forming balanced judgements, and demonstrate the ability to communicate this to specialist and non-specialist audiences.

(LO3) Demonstrate skills of analysis, critical evaluation, synthesis and application of information in the context of criminal law.

Teaching Method 1 - Lecture
Description:

Notes: The lectures will provide you with a broad overview of the subject areas, a structure to follow to aid comprehension and facilitate independent study and analysis and guidance on key/contentious issues.

Teaching Method 2 - Tutorial
Description: The tutorials offer an opportunity for students to explore the material in more depth and practice application of the law to given facts. They should be used to help you clarify points you do not understand or to enhance your knowledge, understanding and application skills. groups are small (typically no larger than 12 students). Students are required to prepare in advance for these sessions which are intended to be participatory by all members of the class.
