Teaching and Learning Strategies

Seminar - This module is taught through 20 general language classes and 11 language reinforcement classes. In the two-hour general language classes, there will be time with both an Anglophone and a native-speaker. The language reinforcement classes are taught by a native speaker and provide opportunities to consolidate skills taught during the general language classes and for more informal conversation on aspects of French society. All classes are taught in French, apart from when a translation into English is discussed. General feedback is given in class and opportunity for individual feedback on progress is available during Tutor’s office hours and in week seven. The module is assessed by a mixture of formative and summative assignments. Formative assignments provide students with essential practice on tasks which will be assessed later on in the semester, as well as the opportunity to take risks and use newly acquired structures and lexis. Additional material is available on VITA L for independent study and students are strongly encouraged to attend the Café français and to enrol for the conversation exchange scheme, in order to maintain the level of fluency and communicative skills achieved during their Year Abroad.
