Aims

To outline the linguistic situation of contemporary Italy;

To develop the students’ critical awareness of issues relating to language in society, with specific reference to the Italian context;

To introduce theoretical and methodological aspects of sociolinguistic research.

Teaching and Learning Strategies

The majority of teaching will be delivered face-to-face on campus. Online delivery will be used to complement the on-campus delivery and where technology affords a better learning experience.

Lecture:
Weekly lectures will introduce the main topics and theoretical debates.

Seminar:
During the seminars students will consolidate received knowledge via the close reading of selected material and contribute to discussions via the preparation of assigned tasks.

Tutorial:
The tutorials will give students the opportunity to reflect on their own learning and discuss relevant strategies.
