Aims

To consolidate the student's knowledge of Spanish grammar in a variety of different contexts and registers and to explore aspects of contemporary Peninsular and Latin American Spanish language and culture;

To develop and consolidate listening comprehension skills in Spanish in a variety of different contexts  and registers;

To communicate effectively in oral Spanish in a variety of different contexts and registers.


Learning Outcomes

(LO1) On successful completion of this module, students will have markedly improved their linguistic skills in Spanish speaking, listening, understanding, reading, writing and translating, which will equip them to attain an advanced level and to be able to spend a successful next year spent abroad.

(LO2) On successful completion of this module students will be able to translate a variety of socio-cultural and literary texts from English into Spanish.

(LO3) On successful completion of this module students will be able to communicate effectively in written and oral Spanish in a variety of different formal and professional contexts and registers and to explore aspects of contemporary Peninsular and Latin American Spanish language and culture.

Teaching and Learning Strategies

Teaching Method 1 - Seminar
Description:
This module is delivered in four contact-hours per week distributed as follows: 2 hour-seminar of grammar and written skills, one-hour seminar of speaking skills and one hour of reading and listening skills and pronunciation in a language laboratory.

Syllabus

 

This is an advanced course in Spanish language and culture, mapped against the B2 level of the CEFR, in which the knowledge of grammar learned in SPAN256 is consolidated and developed.

Students are issued with a weekly schedule at the beginning of the semester.
