Aims

It aims to consolidate and expand the students’ knowledge of Spanish language to an intermediate level and in a variety of different familiar and professional contexts and registers;

To explore further aspects of contemporary Peninsular and Latin American Spanish language and culture, such as literature;

To develop and consolidate reading and listening comprehension skills in Spanish in a variety of different familiar and professional contexts and registers;

To communicate effectively in written and oral Spanish in a variety of different familiar and professional contexts and registers.

Learning Outcomes

(LO1) On successful completion on this module students will have improved the four linguistic skills in Spanish which will equip them to become independent learners and successfully attain an intermediate level.

(LO2) On successful completion on this module Students will be able to translate a variety of socio-cultural and literary texts from Spanish into English.

(LO3) On successful completion on this module Students will be able to communicate effectively in written and oral Spanish in a variety of different familiar and professional contexts and registers and to explore aspects of contemporary Peninsular and Latin American Spanish language and culture.

Teaching and Learning Strategies

Seminar:
Students will receive four one-hour language classes per week distributed as follows: two hours grammar, one hour laboratory and one hour oral , where you will be able to practice your oral, writing, listening and reading skills, supported with grammar knowledge. All these four hours are linked one to another, so regular attendance is very important in order to progress swiftly to the expected level at the end of the module.

Syllabus
 

Advanced module in Spanish for ex-Beginners. The semester is divided into two units (each lasting five - six weeks) in which knowledge of grammar learned in SPAN112 and SPAN134 is consolidated and developed. The detailed syllabus is to be found in the module handbook, which can be accessed through VITAL. Each student is issued with a weekly schedule at the beginning of the semester.
