Aims

To introduce students to key theoretical and conceptual debates within second language learning and teaching studies;

To develop students' ability to apply theoretical and conceptual debates to a variety of second language learning and teaching contexts;

To enhance students' skills of critical analysis and independent thinking.


Learning Outcomes

(LO2) Identify the connection between academic and / or theoretical knowledge and its practical application in a modern foreign language classroom,

Teaching and Learning Strategies

The majority of teaching will be delivered face-to-face on campus. Online delivery will be used to complement the on-campus delivery and where technology affords a better learning experience.

Lecture:
5x30 minute sessions spread throughout the semester and delivered by Careers and Employability staff. They will focus on job application preparation, reflective practice, and other employability-related topics.

Work Placement:
Placement with partner local school. Minimum of 24 hours during weeks 1 to 12.

Lecture:
Introduction to theoretical concepts and discussions to take into account when planning teaching sessions. 9 hours between weeks 1 and 10.

Tutorial:
Tutorial with allocated supervisor to develop teaching project. 2 hours spread in 4x30 minute sessions.
