Aims |

Students at the end of this module are expected to understand and translate a range of demanding, longer texts, and recognise implicit meaning; To express themselves near fluently; To use Chinese near flexibly and effectively for social purposes; To produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on some subjects; Students are also expected to explore more aspects of Chinese society and culture through the study of its language. |

(LO1) Be able to read and translate texts of approximate 1500 Chinese words. |

(LO2) Know how to write the new characters with the right order of strokes and radicals. |

(LO3) Know Chinese grammar at post-advanced level. |

(LO5) Demonstrate fairly sound knowledge and understanding of Chinese society and culture. |

Teaching and Learning Strategies |
|
The majority of teaching will be delivered face-to-face on campus. Online delivery will be used to complement the on-campus delivery and where technology affords a better learning experience. One lecture and two seminars per week. |

Topics covered during the module may include: Experience of teaching in China; making comparisons and showing preferences; expressing feelings and emotions; explicit comparisons and implicit comparisons; drawing conclusions; Environmental problems; expressing praise and respect, conducting an interview; expressing sequences, making suggestions; Chinese Martial Art; talking about physical attributes, skills and abilities; expressing potential / capability using potential complements, expressing contrast of meaning; Emotions and feelings, asking for advice; expressing concerns, problems and worries; seeking advice; implicit comparison, expressing contrast of meaning; Dating, relationships and life expectations; expressing surprise and reassurance; expressing certainty and reservation; talking about life expectations; forming rhetorical questions, polite counter-argument, the coordinating conjunctives. |
