Aims |

This module aims to help students to understand and translate a range of demanding, long texts, and recognise implicit meaning; To express him / herself near fluently; To use Chinese near flexibly for social purposes; To produce clear and well-structured text on some subjects; To help students to explore aspects of Chinese society and culture through the study of its language. |
Learning Outcomes |

(LO1) Be able to read and translate texts of approximate 1000 Chinese words. |

(LO2) To know how to write the new characters with the right order of strokes and radicals. |

(LO3) To know Chinese grammar at advanced level. |

Topics covered during the module may include: College courses and requirements; asking for information; resultative complements, talking about the future using 会 / 将; Books, libraries and book reviews; asking for and giving opinions about books and libraries; limiting the range of statements, making recommendations; Assignments, quizzes and deadlines; asking for and giving clarification through repetition; starting and ending a conversation politely; expressing formality through vocabulary; stating a rationale; Life stories; asking for and giving opinions through reasoning, agreeing and disagreeing; expressing “be worth” using 值得;stating causes; Air travel and extreme weather; asking for and checking information, giving reasons and expressing regret; expressing influences using受......影响, noun phrases with 以 , stating extreme consequences; Meeting a host family; Expressing hospit ality and appreciation, giving polite responses ; describing impressions, expressing causal relations, expressing limited choices. |
