Aims

To equip final year students with sophisticated expressive skills in the area of formal text production on an advanced level in a variety of genres;

To develop grammar skills to an advanced level. Through writing in a variety of registers (reporting tasks, letters, summaries, dialogues, descriptions) students are expected to consolidate and apply their understanding of Spanish grammar;

To develop advanced listening skills;

To develop speaking and presentation skills.


Learning Outcomes

(LO1) By the end of the module, students will be expected to be able to speak and write Spanish with near-native fluency and with grammatical correctness.

(LO2) Students will be able to communicate effectively in a variety of different contexts and registers.

(LO3) Students' ability to write in different registers and interpret short interviews / talks will have been enhanced.

Teaching and Learning Strategies

Teaching method 1: seminar.
The module is taught four hours per week (Grammar and Written, Oral and Listening) except in tutorial week. Grammar and written are dedicated to the comprehension, analysis and especially production of texts in different genres in Spanish. Students will learn how to write specific text-types, each of which demands a particular form, style, register and vocabulary. Advanced translation skills will also be developed; texts will cover a variety of genres and styles. Students will be required to produce and submit translations of specified passages in a variety of genres without the aid of a dictionary and to explain and defend their rendering in class. The module also tackles diverse points of higher sentence grammar. Students will also improve and practice listening comprehension both in classes and through independent work with audio-visual and audio material and converse on current topics often inspired by a video. Student will also present and delive r through personal oral presentations different topics of Spanish culture.


Syllabus

 

Students will learn how to write specific text-types each of which demands a particular form, style, register and vocabulary. Students will continue to develop their translating and basic interpreting skills. The module also tackles diverse points of higher sentence grammar and students will read extensive texts of high standard language level. Finally, students will improve listening comprehension and speaking skills.
