Aims |

To provide students with competence in reading, writing, listening and speaking Portuguese at intermediate level; To provide students with a sound understanding of intermediate aspects of Portuguese grammar; To explore aspects of contemporary Portuguese speaking culture through the medium of Portuguese. |

Teaching and Learning Strategies |
|
Teaching method 1 - seminar. The grammar classes will take the form of explanations of language functions and subsequent practice of what has been learnt. The language skills classes will help build vocabulary and develop skills in reading comprehension, listening and writing. These classes will also be integrated with the language functions being studied in the grammar classes. The oral classes will focus on practising speaking and listening in Portuguese and students are encouraged to participate actively. The tutor will prepare activities and will use a variety of media to provoke discussion around a specific theme or topic. |

Topics covered may include: Relative and indefinite pronouns; Imperative mood; Personal infinitive; Present subjunctive; Past participle, present perfect, past perfect and pluperfect; Future, conditional and ways to express them; Present subjunctive; Gerund; Passive voice. |
