To develop an upper-intermediate competence in reading, writing, listening and speaking Spanish equivalent to the B1+ level in the CEFR;

To provide students with a solid understanding of upper- intermediate Spanish grammar and to enable them to explore advanced structures independently;

To explore aspects of contemporary Spanish-speaking cultures through the medium of Spanish;

To develop students' language learning strategy use and a reflective approach towards language learning.

Teaching method 1 - seminar.
This module is taught through 24 hours of general language classes, which include listening comprehension classes in the language laboratory, reading comprehension exercises and grammar teaching and practice. Students have a chance to consolidate and practice the structures and vocabulary acquired in conversation, discussions, short presentations and short writing and note taking exercises. The classes will be taught in Spanish. Students are expected to attend all classes, to hand in homework and the portfolio on time and to work through the assigned exercises independently. The module offers much accompanying material, including online resources, which can be used for independent study in the library. Regular feedback forms an integral part of the module.
XJTLU students will be offered the opportunity to join the MLC equivalent cohort for one hour a week to further support the development of practical skills such as listening and speaking.
