Aims |

To develop a higher intermediate competence in reading, writing, listening and speaking Chinese equivalent to the PRE-HSK3 Level. To provide students with a solid understanding of intermediate structures of Chinese grammar; To explore aspects of contemporary Chinese-speaking cultures through the medium of Chinese; To develop students' language learning strategy use and a reflective approach towards language learning. |

Teaching and Learning Strategies |
|
This module is taught through 24 hours of general language classes, when possible including listening comprehension in the language laboratory. These 24 hours can be divided between synchronous and asynchronous learning activities as needed. Students practise and consolidate the structures and vocabulary of intermediate level via a variety of activities: reading and listening, conversation, discussions, presentations and writing and note taking exercises. The classes will be taught in Chinese for the most part. Students are expected to attend all classes, to contribute to weekly learning activities, such as discussion boards, to hand in homework and to submit the portfolios on time. Students will work through the assigned exercises independently or in groups as directed by the tutor. The module offers much accompanying material, including online resources, which can be used for independent study at home or in the library. Regular feedback forms an integral part of the module |

Intermediate course in Chinese language: culture, grammar, written and spoken communication. The syllabus can be found in the module handbook which can be accessed through CANVAS. A weekly schedule for the module is issued at the beginning of the semester. |
