Aims

Provide students with advanced competence in reading, writing, listening and speaking Catalan;

Develop student's language learning strategy and a reflective approach towards language learning;

Explore aspects of contemporary Catalan culture and literature;

Develop translation skills.


Learning Outcomes

(LO1) Apply advanced listening, reading, writing and speaking skills in the target language.

(LO2) Express themselves in writing at the same level with complete orthographical and morphological correctness and adequate syntactical sophistication.

(LO3) Demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of the structures, registers and varieties of the target language.

(LO4) Understand any kind of Catalan text other than those demanding some kind of specialised knowledge.

(S1) Improving own learning/performance - self-awareness / self-analysis.

(S2) Communication (oral, written and visual) - presentation skills – oral.

(S3) Communication (oral, written and visual) - presentation skills - written.

Teaching and Learning Strategies

Seminar:
Classes will include exercises in comprehension, vocabulary study, grammatical exercises, translation, and essay writing. Audio-visual materials will also be used. Oral classes are as unstructured as the students’ own initiative will allow them to be.

Weak pronouns;

Accentuation;

Phonetics;

Morphology;

Writing;

Vocabulary.
