To provide students with competence in reading, writing, listening and speaking Portuguese at B1 level according the Common European Framework of Reference;

Seminar:
The methodological approach is varied, with different classes teaching different skills. The grammar classes will revise, consolidate and expand on the main structures and grammatical functions of the Portuguese language covered in PORT112 and PORT134. Particular emphasis will be devoted to the acquisition of new vocabulary and language structures. The language skills classes will work in conjunction with the grammar classes to give students the opportunity to practise and build on their knowledge and use of Portuguese in a variety of contexts and situations. Students will complete exercises related to reading and listening comprehension, writing and translation skills. The oral classes will focus on building vocabulary around specific topics and themes, consolidating knowledge and achieving greater accuracy and fluency in spoken Portuguese. These classes will combine structured and less formal activities. The tutor will prepare activities and will use a variety of medi a to provoke discussion, and students are encouraged to participate actively.
Notes: The seminars consist of one grammar class, one language skills class and oral class (conducted by a native speaker) per week.

The past tenses: Preterite and imperfect;

The subjunctive mood: Present, future, imperfect tenses. The perfect subjunctive and pluperfect;

The passive voice and the particle ‘se’;

Relative pronouns.
