Aims

Provide students with a sound understanding of the basic structures of Catalan grammar;

Develop all the skills necessary to begin to communicate confidently in spoken and written Catalan;

Explore aspects of contemporary Catalan culture through the medium of Catalan;

Enable students to develop useful language learning strategies and a reflective approach;

Develop students' ability to work collaboratively and independently.

Teaching and Learning Strategies

Seminar:
The methodological approach combines face-to-face classroom methods with the use of technology. In all face-to-face sessions the focus is on the development of the four skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking. The material used has been designed to enable students to practise one or more of the skills. It will include a wide range of written exercises in the following: grammar, reading comprehension, listening, translation and composition.


Syllabus

 

Introductory course in Catalan language (Part One). Our basic purpose is to teach, through a variety of methods, the elementary skills of reading, writing, listening to and speaking in the target language. Alphabet, present, personal pronouns, possessives, articles, interrogatives, apostrophes, nationalities, numbers 0-100, present indicative, reflexives, preterit, imperfect.
