Aims

To introduce key methodologies and research techniques used in the social sciences.

To develop confidence and competence in oral and written communication skills.

To explore certain key concepts linked to understanding society from the perspective of core social science disciplines.

To develop confidence and competence in research skills (critical reading/listening/collation of information and data).

To develop digital literacy.


Learning Outcomes

(LO1) Students will demonstrate an introductory understanding of the core frameworks, methodologies and research techniques used in the social sciences.

(LO2) Students will demonstrate confidence in communicating ideas and data orally and in writing.

(LO3) Students will possess an understanding of the key concepts and theories used in certain disciplines within the social sciences.

(LO4) Students will demonstrate competence in digital literacy including PowerPoint, using forums and online research.

(LO5) Students will be able to take control of their own learning and demonstrate the habits of an active, independent learner.

(S1) Students will possess appropriate study skills.

(S3) Students will demonstrate skills in critical thinking.

(S4) Students will be able to pursue independent study productively.

(S5) Students will be able to reflect on their learning.

(S6) Students will demonstrate appropriate verbal and written communication skills.
