Aims

To understand the reasons for the development of a distinctive Coptic Christianity.

To examine a series of documents from Egypt from the 2nd to 7th centuries.

To assess the importance of social and political factors in the creation of the Coptic Church.

To assess the impact of the emerging theological disputes that dominated the period.


Learning Outcomes

(LO1) Students will demonstrate an understanding of the reasons for the development of a distinctive Coptic Christianity.

(LO2) Students will demonstrate a critical appreciation of the importance of social and political factors in the creation of the Coptic Church.

(LO3) Students will be able to identify, describe and evaluate the emerging theological disputes that dominated the period.

4. Egypt in the 5th century.

5. Egypt in the 6th -7th centuries.
