Aims

To idenitify and examine various ideas and interpretations of capitalism, decline, crisis, transition and utopia. To compare and evaluate contrasting historical and contemporary alternatives. To consider the theoretical frameworks used to critique capitalism.


Learning Outcomes

(LO1) Students will be able to identify and reflect on various ideas and interpretations of capitalism, decline, crisis, transition and utopia.

(LO2) Students will be able to contrast various historical and contemporary alternatives to capitalism.

(LO3) Students will possess a critical appreciation of the theoretical and methodological frameworks used to critique capitalism.

2. The Impact of the Digital Revolution.

3. Crises and contradictions.

4. Transition and revolution.

5. Dystopian futures.

6. Religion and anti-capitalism.

7. Utopia and terror.

8. Anarchy and the future society.

9. Democracy and planning.

10.Abundance and the division of labour.
