Aims

The aims of this module are to provide the student with an introduction to the principles of industrial management and the issues of sustainability in management processes

The Evolution of Management Theory Mass production. Scientific Management. The Universal Process Approach. Behavioural approaches and human relations. In Search of Excellence. Critique and empirical studies. Leanness and agility.

Organisations and Organisations'' Structures .The main forms of business enterprise. The roles of shareholders and directors.Ownership/control structures.Organisation charts. Functions and roles. The changing shape of organisations. Factors affecting organisational structure.

Corporate Strategy. The nature of competitive advantage. The strategy definition process. Performance measurement.

Teamwork Group dynamics and group development. Teams. Criteria for team effectiveness. Employee participation. Empowerment. Industrial examples.
