Aims

To explore and discuss issues associated with producing high-quality and well-regarded technical work that leads to a recognised reputation.


Learning Outcomes

(LO1) A practical understanding of how established techniques of research and enquiry are used to create and interpret knowledge.


Syllabus

 

- Cultural and organisational factors.
- Establishing and maintaining a technical reputation.
- Information triangles and knowledge spheres.
- Use and interpretation of data including establishing confidence and credibility; presentation of data & technical arguments orally and in writing.


Teaching and Learning Strategies

Teaching Method 1 - Lecture
Description: The flipped classroom approach will be utilised with a lecture at the beginning of each half-day session in which the pre-session directed learning will be reviewed.

Description: A number of seminars will be led by practitioners from national labs and industry

Description: Students will be asked to work in groups to explore issues associated with technical quality and establishing technical reputation.
