Aims |

To provide an overview on the role of additive manufacturing in new product development. To develop a generic understanding on the principles and the complete process chain of additive manufacturing processes. To provide an awareness on recent developments in additive manufacturing and associated technologies. |

1. Introduction to Additive Manufacturing (AM) Market requirements for rapid product development; What is Rapid Prototyping, Rapid Manufacturing and Additive Manufacturing? Generic characteristics and limitations of AM technology; AM family tree. 2. Additive Manufacturing Technology Fundamental physical/chemical mechanisms of model building; System operation principles; Properties of media, influence of process parameters, technical features; Process limitation - dimensional and geometric accuracy, surface textures and post-processing treatments; Economics and applications for the four main RP technology; a) stereolithography, b) fused deposition modelling, c) selective laser sintering/sintering and d) 3D printing 3. Data Interface Slicing Operation; Generation of STL files; CAD data input format-STL, CLI; Consideration in support generation and part configuration; Other input formats. 4. New Developments in Additive Manufacturing Emerging AM proces ses; Developments in associated rapid manufacturing; Overall evaluation and comparison of AM technology; Selection of AM systems; Applications of AM in various industrial, health care and other sectors; Design for AM. |
